Would you recommend lasik eye surgery?

Have you or anyone you know ever went through with the procedure? Were they happy with the results? Is it worth the money? I have heard that sometimes when you get the surgery although it improves your eyesight a little you still need glasses after. How long do the results last?

No. I recommend that people look at the risks and benefits and decide if it is right for them. My ophthalmology professor put it perfectly: There may be a risk of severe complications of 1 in a million, but if you are that one person it is 100% for you and you don't care about the other 999, 999 people. Lasik does carry risk of dry eye most commonly, but can lead to blindness (which is rare). I had it about ten months ago and have 20/15 vision in both eyes but also have a couple floaters at times. I was 20/600 though with astigmatism. If you decide it is for you what I do recommend is you find a good surgeon. All the research says the one true variable isn't the equipment, it is the surgeon. Ask him how often his patients experience complications, how many times he has done the procedure, how many times with his current equipment, etc.

Most people wind up with better than 20/20 vision after lasik. What lasik can't fix is far-sightedness that happens with age, requiring reading glasses. I've known 2 people who've had the "halo" problem after having lasik. (When looking at bright objects, rings appear around it.) Both of these were people in their 50s. Most people I've known have had it with success, and say it was the best thing that they ever did. Everyone says it's great to wake up and be able to see the clock without having to put glasses on. Canada is a much cheaper place to have lasik done than the United States. They've done it for a much longer period of time, and they have good results. I believe they guarantee their work for several years, and will fix it if the vision deteriorates in that specified time. It runs around $1000-1200 to have both eyes done in Canada. Also, you generally have to have a stable prescription for 3 years before having the procedure.

i have heard of people who needs glasses after the surgery because their cornea (can't remember if it's the one) is larger than the normal so the person will have to wear glasses for astigmatism post surgerybut i would recomend you make an appointment with the doctor to ask these questions
