Will the military pay for my lasik?

Ahmed
Lets say I was serving in the Navy for 4 years in active duty. My eyes are near-sighted, which means I cant see far. Will the Navy pay for my lasik? Or would I have to go about saving my own money and paying it myself?

Floy
They will give you real pretty glasses free. Saves you money that you can put towards your lasik.

i actually just asked my husband this question. we were talking about the bcg's (birth control glasses...ha) yes, they are that ugly. he told me that a guy on his crew had lasik paid for by the navy, but there was some sort of stipulation that went along with it. really i would advise you to talk to medical about it, it is possible.

No, lasik surgery is not covered by the military (that i know of). There are, however, options to have the PKR (er, prk? ) eye surgery done at government locations, however.

The military does pay for eye surgery. But, there is usually a very long waiting list to recieve it.And deployments can mean your name goes back to the bottom of the list. And the services have tighter restrictions on who can recieve PRK or Lasik eye surgery than civilian doctors do.The military generally doesn't offer lasik to anyone who's vision is better than 20/70 or worse than 20/400.But you are allowed to take leave and pay for eye surgery yourself by a civilian doctor, You still must schedule it thru the military for follow up care.So yes it is possible, but don't count on it.There are just to many people wanting it, and to many factors that can prevent you from getting it.

I would ask arond about it.My brother in law is in the Marine Corps out in San Diego and they paid for his.

Anderson
YES they will. They are paying for mine. But the waiting list is very long

To answer your question, the answer is yes and no.The military will pay for lasik surgery, but *ONLY* if your MOS requires you to have excellent vision. I'm a Combat Cameraman, which requires 20/20 vision (same thing for Pilots), and lasik surgery is provided to us at the military's expense.Like I said, it has to be a requirement for your job, and generally it has to be due to loss of vision incurred while serving in the military.

weeellll, you can get put on the list, but the waiting time is often years long. those people who need it for their jobs get priority, everyone else is Space A.

well i know my recruiter recently got it for free...the navy paid for it and his teeth whitening...so yeah, i think so
