Will the army give you lasik sooner if your vision is really bad and youre a combat arms?Basil I'm gonna be a 13D Field Artillery. I ship in 2 weeks. My vision is 20/200 uncorrected(REALLY bad). Would they put me higher up on the list for LASIK since my eyes are much worse than that of the average soldier and since I'm a combat arms soldier? Thanks!
Brigitte My husband had it done at Hood and here is how it worked there: The waiting list is first come first serve It was based on when you sign up not what your vision is. Your MOS does play a part in your wait and Combat Arms Soldiers DO have priority. You can NOT be deploying, going on TDY or going on any major field exercises (including NTC) for 90 days after the surgery.Your command had to agree and sign a memo agreeing to the terms of the surgery before you could get on the list. The wait was about 6 months once he got on the list and we got about 3 months notice that he was going to have the surgery done. He got 4 days quarters after the surgery because for the first three he couldn't even see (he had both eyes done at the same time) We've known people from here at Bliss that have gone to Hood and had it done recently they only waited about 5 months after they got on the list. Hood has civilians that do the surgeries thou and they do them like three times a week to meet the demand so that could be why the list is shorter there. It's really based on where you are and what that clinic has open. There are only so many places that do it so the posts are sharing clinics and sending people from other places to those that do it. That could be why there are longer waiting lists in some areas then there are in others.
Chasidy no...it won't...iam also combat arms 11b infantry....i also to have really bad eye sight...i put in my lasik packet about a year back and still haven't gotten...another guy in my unit is still waiting for 2 years.
Renate When I was in, LASIK was not offered at all. We were also told that, if we had the procedure done on our own and ended up with messed-up vision, they could and would discharge us.
Walton It is doubtful they would even do lasik on someone with 20/200 vision.20/200 is not bad vision. You would be at the bottom of the list, not the top.
Valeria No. This is considered an elective procedure and you will be lucky to get stationed at a place where LASIK is performed.
