Why did the fda restrict lasik surgery to over 18?Edwardo Besides needing the surgery again (possibly) in a few years, I don't see that the surgery would pose any additional risks to teenagers if their vision has stabilized.
Ligia There are actually some places that may preform LASIK if you are under 18 it is just considered off label. The majority of humans do not have stable vision until between the ages of 18-21, so if your vision is changing then it makes no sense to have it done because you will just have to have it done again, the same is true for diebetics, Contact lens wearers, and pregnant or breast feeding women.
Kenia Simply that - to ensure that a teenagers eyes have stabilised. They do change even slightly so you'd be more pissed off if you had the surgery and then your eyes changed - than if you had to wait a little while longer & have no problems again unitl you possibly need glasses for reading due to old age some 50 yrs later.
