Why after lasik do my eyes tear up excessively?Fleta My eyes seem to always be tearing up since I've had Lasik. They don't seem dry, but my eyes always look like i've been crying.
Bertie You're lucky if they aren't dry. But, if your still taking the lubricating eye drops, thats probably the source. It will probably go away in a month or two just like dry eye would for other people. If its been longer than that...you should ask your doc. Good Luck!Edit--- Have you tried allergy meds? Even if you don't have allergies, it might help to make your eyes dryer.
Filomena I had the same problem after Lasik, many people do. It is dry eye even though it doesn't seem very dry.The reason your eyes are tearing up is that you don't have enough of the right kind of tears to keep your eyes lubricated. Your eyes are made up of layers, one layer that keeps your eyes moist longer is the oily layer. If you don't have enough tears to keep your eyes comfortably moist, your eyes are compensating by making extra watery tears. This is great to help your eyes wash out a speck or something and it is a good natural response to help protect your dry eyes. An artificial tear can help because they are more like the good healthy tears you need. If you continue to have problems, your doctor can offer you other treatments.I'm 10 years post-LASIK. It is different for everyone, but mine lasted a bit over a year and I still get occasional bouts of dry eye problem but this is likely related to an eye problem that I have.

Charissa Is normal.
Whitley You're lucky if that happens to you. Most people I know who had this procedure suffer from dry eyes and have to use eye drops to keep their eyes from drying out.
