What happens when you get lasik eye surgery?

Like what do they do? Do they put a lazer up to your eye or what? What happens if you blink during the process? What if you move your head? I need answers!

Hi- I had lasik eye surgery a little over a year ago. It is impossible to blink during the procedure because an instrument called an eye speculum is placed in your eye lids to hold it open. This sounds uncomfortable, but I didn't find it painful or anything. The laser is above you, but not right in your face. When I had my surgery I was on a table that they moved electronically to perfectly align my head with the laser. They will not "zap" your eyes until everything is perfectly lined up. Also, when I had the surgery I was given 2 ibuprofen and a Valium before the procedure started, as well as some numbing eye drops. The whole surgery for both eyes lasted for only about 10 minutues- it was a breeze!! I would encourage you to go to an eye doctor that performs the surgery- a lot of them have free initial appointments where they could tell you if you are a candidate and describe how they perform the procedure, as well as answer all your questions. I have no regrets about having it done and would do it again in a heartbeat! As a side note, a lot of people ask me how much it cost- I live in upstate New York and I paid $4, 000 for both eyes (the cost included any additional procedures if I didn't get to 20/20 the first time, which I did!)
