What factors can rule someone out for lasik surgery?Kristopher I'm looking to get LASIK in the future, but always hear that some people are not candidates for it. What could dis-qualify someone for LASIK?
Angelika If you suffer from Lupus Erythematosus, Rhuematoid Arthritis, or Fibromylagia, this could determine whether or not you have it done. Pregnancy, lactation, diabetes, cataracts, glaucoma- if you have been a long-term contact lens wearer, take certain medications, or have other health or age related conditions that cause you to have dry eyes this could also be a deciding factor. You can also see a preliminary list here of contraindications, but the only way to know for sure would be to see your doctor. http://www.surgicaleyes.org/Contraindica…
Anitra There are many things that can make you a noncandidate. Anything from being monocular to various systemic diseases to just not having realistic expectations. See your local Ophthalmologist and have a screening exam. Most are free. Make sure the surgeon has done thousands of surgeries before you choose them.
Rosemarie ok, i just had it done yesterday, so if you have any questions pls email. now, to youe answer, well, your cornea has to be thick enough to be able to be shaped (if its too thin you cant have it), also, some ppl have pupils that dilate too far (they cant have it either). Also, the safe margin for lasik correction is +10 to -5. anymore than that and you should really be looking at a corneal (contact lense) implant. Thats about it i think.
Chantelle Only a doctor can tell you---I have heard that astigimatism (sp? ) disqualifys some people
