What are some of the common misconceptions of lasik?Chloe jasonlai73: i notice you're asking a lot of questions...the most common misconceptions about lasik IMO:1) that you'll "never need glasses again" (everyone needs reading glasses at about age 40)2) that every Rx is doable in lasik3) that every person sees "perfectly" after lasik4) that its somehow "safer" than contacts5) that you never have to go to the eye doctor again (still need corneal/retinal checkups, especially if you were highly nearsighted before the surgery)6) that it fixes "everything" (from cataracts to macular degeneration, etc etc)7) that you're no longer at risk for retinal problems associated with myopia b/c you're not nearsighted anymore (which is untrue)
Amal I think one of the most common is that it is perfectly safe. I've seen some really ugly outcomes. I would not even consider it. Some of the new phakic IOLs or clear lens replacement sound like a better option to me, but for now, I'll wear my glasses and keep my eyes safe.
