What are schooling requirements for lasik?Annamarie
i'm interested in optometry school, but i am curious to know whether or not i would be permitted to perform LASIK eye surgery. i know opthomologists can do this so i'm considering this after med school, but is it also available in some states for optometrists...i'm interested in LASIK but if possible i'd like to avoid med school?

I have not heard of any state that allows optometrists to perform LASIK. O.D.'s are allowed to perform non-laser surgical procedures.To perform LASIK, you would need to be an ophthalmologist, which would require you to go to med. school.
