Question about lasik surgery and lifetime insurance?Idalia I am having Lasik next month, I have the option to purchase a lifetime insurane in case I need any additional surgery. I have really bad eyesight, so it is possible, although, slim, that I will need another procedure. So, the problem is that I think I should get, but my husband thinks its a scam. He had his eyes done, got the insurance and has never needed a thing ( his were done 2 years ago, and if you don't need adjusting within the first year, I guess you never do).Looking for opinions. Thanks!
Mana It's actually as much a scam as extended warranties. Don't get it. Most people who get LASIK will not need additional adjustments, but for those few that do, it should be included in the total cost of the procedure. And if you do need an additional adjustment, it should not cost you more than what you would probably be paying for the insurance anyway. Also, the fact that they advertise it as "lifetime" insurance is a HUGE RED FLAG. That fact alone would make me choose a different surgeon.LASIK is NOT a permanent procedure and does not last a lifetime...beginning around age 45, you will still start suffering from presbyopia, because your eye lens hardens naturally as you age and LASIK can't fix that...and you will need reading glasses regardless, though your distance vision should remain mostly good.Don't waste your money. If you're one of those few who need adjusting after the initial procedure, just pay for the adjustment directly. It shouldn't be costing you more than a couple hundred in any event, if you do end up needing one (which you probably won't).
