My son is 6yrs he was suggested for glasses with 1 cylindrical power and 05 spherical power laser? lasikgt?Armandina he is advised by opthomologist to go for glasses, with -1 cylindrical and -.5 in both eyes, what might be the cause for his vision defieciency? can he go for lasik or any other treatment to get rid off spectacles and r there any side effects for this?
Milly No respectable surgeon will do those procedures until they feel sure that the eyes have stopped growing... so 18-21 years of age. In a few more years he can get contacts if he feels the need but for now specs are the only option.
Angela Lasik and contacts are only recommended after the eye stops growing, around 18 or so.It helps if your son doesn't watch television beyond 1 hour every day and not let him play computer games beyond that time too because the screens will burn his little eyes and make his problem worse. The closer to the screen, the worse.Doing his homework and reading in good light will also help his vision. I would also recommend giving your son vitamins for eye health. You have to accept that your kid will be wearing glasses until he is physically able to have surgery.
Alonzo The FDA does not approve anyone under the age of 21 to have LASIK and under the age of 18 for PRK, their eyes are still growing and changing. As a 6yo it is very important to wear the glasses as instructed, so his eyes do not lose their best corrected acuity. No treatments at this young age other than the glasses. Get ones he likes so he complies with wearing them. :)
Miles Follow the advice of the Ophthalmologist and get the little kid a pair of glasses so that he will have vision while he is growing up.See that he reads without his glasses on.See that his teacher does not try to force him to read with his glasses on.
Aleisha There are many differnt types of reasons why children's eye sight doesn't stay at 20/20. My daughter has lost some hearing and the doctors don't know why. But the best thing is to get the issue taken care of so it doesn't get worse and he can see to his full potential. the -1 and -.5 isn't much at all and at his age Lasik is too drastic.
Ayana ok personally..i got lasik done wen i turned 20...it was the best thing in the world for me..i got my vision checked after 2 yrs last week..and its 20/20... absolutely perfwctand now ur son....he is ony 6yrs..and u shud understand that he is developing and growing at this age... well i dont know if eyes "grow" too..but plzz use some common sense ... i mean he is a little kid and no doctor wud advise surgery coz he is tooooooooo young... so FORGET LASIK or LASER... also i m very sorry to tell u this but his numbers wud not be the same after one yr... they wud change, ... and its normal... so plz dont even try to remove those specs
Calandra He could certainly hav a consultation for laser eye surgery, but he would need to wait until he is 21, and his spectacle prescription has been stable for at least one year.So he will have to wait a few years.
Lesha Eye miopia is related to body growth, normally continue up to 20-22 years.Laser / Lasik is suggested after body growth stops/ stabilise.
Raeann you should wait until he is at least 18 if he ever decides to fly fighter jets the g force will rip the lasik out of his eyes glasses aren't so bad, when he is 10 get him contacts
