My optometrist wont let me have lasik? how can i have it?Evelin Im 19 and want to get lasik, but my optometrist is an *** and wont let me due to me being young and my eyesight might change, but my eyesight hasnt changed in thelast 2 years, I want it done. HOw much is it, is it worth it, are there any ways of working around this to get it done?
Iluminada In response to rabbit: Actually, optometrists are doctors. They are O.D.'s - Doctors of Optometry. It is different from an M.D. who does surgery, but they are highly trained and knowledgeable doctors. To answer the question: You should consult an ophthalmologist (MD) about lasik, because they will make the final decision whether or not to do surgery on you. Just know that you're likely to hear the same thing the optometrist told you. It's about $2000.
Donella Optometrists can't do lasik surgery. You have to go to an ophthalmologist for that. Your optometrist can't stop you from having lasik surgery. Find an ophthalmologist who does lasik (they all don't do it) and see if you're a good candidate for it. It works better on some people than others. It depends on what is wrong with your eyes --far sighted, near sighted, or astigmatism. It costs about $4, 000, and insurance rarely pays for it.
Tony optometrists are only licensed to measure correction and are not Doctors.you need to see a licensed ophthalmologist who is an MD that specializes in the eye.I had it done by a Dr with hundreds of cases and had invented the blade to cut the cornea. I have loved the results. I had extreme astigmatism.Bad results are permanent .Pick your ophthalmologist on experience It cost $2000 per eye
Liana Since you seem to be more of an expert than the trained, tested and licensed optometrist, you should be able to figure out a way to get lasik surgery.
