Lasik surgery can you see the laser during surgery?

Of those of you who have had Lasik surgery, does the sedative put you out enough that you can't see the doc working the laser on your eye? I know of the procedure, just curious about the actual experience of the procedure.

The sedative will only relax you somewhat. You will be wide awake and responsive. You will be able to see the laser head above you but you will not be able to see the actual laser energy itself. You will be able to see the fixation light that is used to center the laser and track any movements your eye may make. Hope this helped.

I had a friend that had this done - He said that he could see the doctor peeling back the little layer of his eye and doing stuff to it.That pretty much made my decision for me - I think I'd rather wear contacts the rest of my life.

Lasik surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her dental implants and Lasik surgery in India by a company called Indian Health Guru Consultants. The Price for dental and Lasik surgery is very less in India. She paid 25% of the price she was quoted in America.Indian Health Guru Consultants is very famous in India They arrange Dental surgery, jaw surgery, Lasik eye surgery, Dental Implants etc for foreign patients in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines- about their patient stories. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as dental and eye surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star. http://www.indianhealthguru.comHope this helps.

You can see a red spot, a red light. But not the laser. You definitely see the doctor, the sedative only relaxes you. So you see the Dr. working except for a few seconds of the surgery which you'll go dull. But it's not really that bad (seeing the procedure), I mean it keeps you busy during surgery and it happens so quick that you won't even find time to worry, believe me it's "too quick", you won't know how much till you get it!You won't feel a thing, no pain at all...and in my experience the doctor and nurses kept talking to me, explaining every step so before I knew it was done.

Your eyes are numb during surgery so you cannot feel anything, but you are awake and aware during the procedure. The wavelength of the Lasik laser light energy is not visible to humans. During the surgery you are asked to fixate on a small light that is in the center of the laser. You may want to visit the Lasik forum on our website and see what others have said about their experiences. http://www.USAEyes.org/Ask-Lasik-Expert/
