Is lasik surgery good for our ecomomy? why or why not?Lisabeth Really intrested in Lasik surgery.. and i want to find out if its good for our economy. So please explain with details and examples.
Edwardo I had Lasik eye surgery done after wearing glasses for 16 years. It has been perfect for me. I have had no changes. Of course, as I age, I expect changes. I also co-manage refractive surgery and have seen hundreds of successful patients. It doesn't hurt, generally. There is a bit of pressure, but no real pain if you have LASIK. The PRK version (where no flap is cut) is a little more uncomfortable for the first few days following the procedure. I've seen several people who said they were in some pain, but healed just fine. I used to wear both glasses and contact lenses. I had LASIK done and it's the best decision I've ever made. I can see clearly, no squinting, no driving with glasses anymore. I can read road signs, see the individual leaves in the trees (they're not just a blurry mess anymore). It's also nice to be able to see what time it is when I wake up. The procedure is painless (although a bit uncomfortable) but takes less than 15 minutes. Highly recommended. Elena If you have money to spend, and are not worried about rainy day savings, then YES!! By all means, go get the surgery. Our economy is in recession for lots of reasons but a big portion of it is that people are scared to spend, and others who wouldn't have been scared are intimidated that people will criticize them for shopping. You go spend your money. Pump it back into our economy (make sure you get a good deal which isnt hard to do now days)Seriously, the people who have money right now should be out taking advantage of the deals. If someone criticizes you for it then they don't much understand our situation.
Dakota Your question ought to be " is it a good procedure for the patient? " And that is debatable. There are always procedures that are being invented that make money... for a manufacturer, or a drug company. And in particular, all of these are out there to indeed make money... the most money with the least amount of danger, and in some cases, to hell with the danger, get it out there, and worry about the danger later.Case in point...Vioxx.... a pain killer. About $5 per tab, about 3 needed per day. And Merck put that drug out there knowing full well that at least in dogs, there was severe cardiac danger. You know the rest/Pfizer is doing the same thing right now with Plavix. A drug no better than aspirin, with a big price tag, and again, some nasty cardiac problems... some of which show up in less than 2 weeks, and are killers.Do they really care? Nope. They'll deal with those whose heart gets blown away on a one to one basis, but if they can get docs to script it, they kick back $$ to those docs.Lasik? In the same category. No one really knows what the long term effect is, but just follow the money............... It isn't necessarily good for the economy.. it is good for the guy who uses it to make buckos.
Maisha i don't know.
