Is lasik permanent? i know that eventually i will need reading glasses but other than that?Charlesetta Lasik is NOT necessarily permanent. I had LASIK in 1998 after my vision had not changed in a couple of years. I'm back to wearing glasses and now have an astigmatism and because of the LASIK, my cornea is so flat it's extremely hard to fit me for contacts. My vision was 20/1200 before the LASIK and now I'm about 20/50 in one eye and 20/40 in another. It's possible that your eyes will continue to change after LASIK. Not to say I wouldn't recommend it!! I can see the alarm clock at night!!! You can always go back for "touch-ups" too, I just haven't.
Joannie No lasik is not permanent. The operation will change the curvature of the front of your eye, to correct your vision, at the time you have the operation. However it is entirely possible that in future years your eyes will change and you will need glasses. Also post operatively you may find an increased sensitivity to light, requiring a more frequent use of sunglasses.
Gertude Even without LASIK eye surgery, it's expected that everyone's eyes will change slightly with the passage of time - it's just a natural part of life. After LASIK, your eyes will still follow their natural course of changing with time, so LASIK shouldn't necessarily be considered a permanent solution. For most people however, their vision will not change enough to require any additional treatments, especially when the original procedure was done to correct for poor distant vision. Refractive surgery (LASIK) often produces amazing results, however, as with any medical procedure, there are risks involved. If you're considering LASIK, it's important that you are aware of the limitations and possible complications that may arise. Some problems include double or triple vision, light distortion so severe that patients can't drive at night, or eyes so dry that they have to wear goggles when going outside. Some patients experience infections, inflammation of the eye, redness, blurriness or eye irritation. In many cases, LASIK eye surgery can eliminate your need for corrective lenses, but that's not always the result. For many who have chosen LASIK, it has meant that they are no longer dependent on corrective lenses in order to have good vision. It's highly recommended that you talk with your doctor about LASIK and how any possible risks or side effects relate to your own personal circumstances.
Brant Yes, indeed lasik is permanent, and you will need glasses if you are over 40 years old. It is best to keep your record of your scan before the surgery as you may need that when you have to undergo cataract surgery in time to come (when you get to upper middle age).Dr.Yeoh Phee LiangConsultant Ophthalmologist www.advancevision.net.my
Clay Lasik does not guarantee that you will have perfect vision permanently. Your vision may still get worse after lasik and you would still need glasses.
