Jeeper is correct. Once you get to your first duty station, check in with optometry at the hospital...They will evaluate you and assign you a priority. You will then be placed on a waiting list and when your number comes up they will perform the surgery. And yes they will pay for it.

You can get LASIK before you go or after you get out of boot camp, but it is VERY expensive and, as far as I know, TRICARE will not pay for that. I would strongly encourage you to do some extensive research on LASIK before getting it either way, because it is currently being investigated as to how safe a procedure it actually is. I myself, would just as soon stay with my contacts and glasses, even if LASIK was available and affordable for me, because I just don't trust it.

I am a Marine who got PRK for free from the Army. All it requires is that you are 21 years old, not deploying soon, and that you are stationed near a facility that will do the surgery. I am stationed on Hawaii, so I was taken care of at Tripler Army Hospital. Soldiers have first priority, then other services, but it isn't a very long wait. I got my surgery one month after I attended the PRK/LASIK brief. It's easy and totally worth it.

first off, "Hayward" is an idiot and apparently isnt in the military, After boot initial training, (SOI) School of infantry, every marine goes to SOI, after boot camp, after SOI and when you got out to the fleet, yes, you can get Lasik,

Yes, you can put your name on the waiting list.It may take a year or two, before you actually get it done.

My husband had it done a few years ago at Camp Pendleton. Its free but there is a wait list. He deployed a few months after. They suggest PRK not Lasik to MOS's that deploy often.

Negative! YOU have to wear the BCG's (black or brown frames) while you are in boot camp and the duration of your enlistment in the CORPS!
