Im considering lasik eye surgery does anyone who has had the surgery have good or bad things to say?Emeline Like some have mentioned, Lasik was one of the best things I have ever done for myself. I was very skeptical at first to have the procedure done but my mom persuaded me to get it done and I have not regretted it. I had the surgery 3 months ago.One of the main concerns was if the surgery was painful and if there were any complications due to it. But I started on this Lasik thing by getting a free consultation from a doctor who specialized in Lasik. I waited for about 6 months for the surgery in order to pay for it (it was 5, 000 or 2, 500 for each eye), but many centers have financing available. After the consultation months later, I went in for the pre-op testing which tested to determine if I was truly a good candidate for the surgery in a series of tests that took about 2 hours. Two days later, I was ready for surgery. I went in, had some more eye testing done, was given Valium and just as I was dozing off, it was surgery time. Everything was so quick. I'm not gonna lie but as the flap was created, I felt pressure and it was a little painful for me but it only hurt for about 1 minute. After that, the laser went in and did it's work and was painless after that. The whole thing was about 6 minutes. I went home and slept the rest of the day. The next day I could see 25/20 and by the following month I saw 20/20.The only complaints I had were that following surgery my eyes were extremely dry but drops were helpful. Also, the lights at night are really bright and I see halos. Other than that, everything has been great. Do your homework on doctors online, search your doctors name and read reviews or work he has done if possible. I had complete trust in mine and everything worked out fine. All surgeries have some risk of complications but overall, Lasik has allowed me to wake up and see life clearly and I would highly recommend the procedure to anyone who is considering it. Good luck!
Dell First you should see a specialist, not every eye is suitable for LASIK.If you are really happy with your glasses/contacts you should know that there is always a possibility that your quality of vision could decrease after surgery even if your visual acuity improves-(blurring), and if you are around 40 years old you will need reading glasses-the outcome mostly depends on age-refractive error(- or +)- patients realistic/non-realistic expectations.Take care..
Fanny I haven't had it...however what turned me off from getting it was that the surgery only lasts I believe like 5 or 9 years. Something like that so every 5 years you have to get it done again.
Carmon 1) Get an experienced surgeon who is a board certified ophthalmolgist. 2) Be prepared for some postoperative pain and ask for pain medication for the first day (dont worry too much, it only really hurts for about 4-6 hours). 3) If you have dry eyes already, surgery will make it worse which will blur your vision. 4) Consider whether your vision is really bad enough to warrant surgery since surgeons are happy to operate on people who barely even need glasses if that is what they think they want.
Kerrie I had lasik surgery 10 years ago and have considered it one of the best things I ever did for myself. I am now 53 years old, and when I wake up in the morning I can read my alarm clock without fumbling for my glasses! I drive, read, watch tv, and everything without glasses. The only complaint I have now is it seems I have contracted extremely dry eyes, for the last 3 months or so, this is something new to me. My doctor told me lasik contributed to this.
Elida LASIK worked for a friend of mine though he now has to wear sunglasses around dusk time. Something to do with how the light reflects. I'm not sure exactly what it is but there is always a possibility that it won't work or tere will be a sode effect. For more information check out http://lasikinfocentre.com/about-lasik-eye-surgery/
Argelia Hi, I had LASIK done almost a year ago and I love it. I wore glasses for 32 years. At first it took a little getting used to as I was always wanting to push them up or take them off and they weren't there LOL. I went to LASIKPLUS here in Minnesota and their policy is that anyone who has the surgery and keeps all of their after surgery appts will have coverage for life. Meaning if anything goes wrong you can go back and have it re-done for free. The people there were really great. I have not had one problem since having it done. After the surgery and the numbing meds wore off I did have discomfort...equal to a minor sunburn. The next day I was fine and driving. I would recommend this surgery to anyone who is tired of glasses. Try finding a LASIKPLUS in your area. They do a free analysis to see if your even a candidate and go over everything with you as to the type of surgery, the procedure, and the cost. They even had financing available to those you need it. Good luck to you....
Paulina My aunt got it but I don't think it helped much she still uses her glasses but not as often. Good luck.
