If your eyesight was both 1020 would you do lasik?Chassidy If you had 10/20, 10/20 eyesight, would you just wear glasses when you fly or would you do LASIK and not wear glasses when you fly? I'm talking about Commercial pilotJust suppose you were in my situation. What way would you choose?
Erik There are potential problems that can hinder your ability to see well and the only minor surgery is surgery on someone else. That being said, if you choose to have surgery, you will be grounded until your eye doc writes a letter stating that your eyes are stable post op and what your final correction has been. Take this letter to your AME and pass his eye test and he can reissue you without the restriction. You could also deal directly with OKC by mail or fax.
Chantal I think you may be expressing your vision improperly. The first number is always 20 over something such as 20/20 or 20/50, etc. The number 20 is the standard measurement for normal vision, expressed in feet. In other words, 20/20 means that a person can see at 20 feet what a person with normal vision can see at 20 feet. So the expression 20/50 means that a person can see at 20 feet what a person with normal vision could see at 50 feet. If you have 20/10 vision you can see at 20 feet what a person with normal vision could see at 10 feet. Therefore your vision would be better than normal and no correction would be required.
Danica I was recently hired by Delta (Comair), and I am getting LASIK surgery on my eyes. I wear glasses now, but won't soon. It is up to you. If you don't mind wearing glasses and don't want to get eye surgery, go ahead. But if you're sick of wearing glasses and think you should, do it. It's entirely up to you.
Arthur Why take on the risks and costs of surgery when glasses are sufficient? It's just my opinion, but I wouldn't let anyone touch my eyes unless there was a serious condition. It's just not worth the risk for me.
