I would love to get lasik surgery however i am a very anxious and squeamish person?

Leida
Do surgeons ever give general anesthesia to people like me? Is there anything else they can administer to help?

Fletcher
I have never heard of a doctor putting anyone under general anesthesia for Lasik (too risky for the small procedure). The doctor should be able to give you some Valium, but talk to your doctor about the issues ahead of time. Let him/her know your concerns so you can address the anxiety issues before the day of surgery and I would think they should be able to help you. Lasik does take only about 15 minutes for both eyes to be done. Good luck!

They will give you versed to relax you and then more meds to either make you so you dont care. If they need to do a general anestetic they will/would.

At the place I had mine done they gave people like 5-10 mgs of Valium which didn’t do much for me. I hate things in my eyes.. So it was not that fun but the surgery only lasts about 15 minutes.
