I have been wearing glasses even since I was a very young kid. I am highly nearsighted in my right eye and somewhat nearsighted in my left eye. I also have a high degree of astigmatism in my right eye. I never wore contact lenses. I want to lasik surgery because I don't have to wear glasses again and have 20/20 vision but I am scared of the side effects. I am 22. Any advise on what to do. What do they do in lasik surgery? What is the procedure?

I also started wearing glasses at a young age and had a high degree of astigmatism (in both eyes). I had Lasik 3 and a half years ago, and was ridiculously scared. I was afraid they'd mess up and I'd be blind. They didn't, and now my vision is 20/15. I do have severely dry eyes now though. My optometrist even inserted tiny rubber cones into my tear ducts (and yes, it's just as fun as it sounds!) and it didn't help. Even with the severe dry eyes, I would say the surgery was worth it to have awesome vision. The procedure itself only took a few minutes- they put in numbing eye drops, then have you lay down and you feel some pressure as they actually do the surgery. It doesn't hurt, it just feels uncomfortable for a few minutes.

I had lasik 2 months ago. My eyes are like yours but I didwear contacts for a few years (went back to glasses). The surgery itself is painless but I did have sensations that were unnerving. I wish they had told me more about making thecorneal flap in advance. My case was difficult because myeyes were quite dry. That shouldn't be a problem for you atyour age (I'm 43). The side effects you have apparently readabout were likely a result of a thin cornea. The thicker yourcornea the better your results will be. Mine was 200 micronsabove minimum and I don't have starbursts or halos. I didhave a ghost image around light sources at night for the first8 weeks but they are disappearing as the doctor predicted. The unnerving part for me was the cutting of the corneal flap. The doc pressed a device on my eye so hard that my visionwent completely dark. It didn't hurt but I could have used 2extra doses of valium just then. Some people are unnervedwhen they smell their burnt cornea tissue. The memory of theodor stays with you. Go in for a screening. Its required by lawto be free. Only if your cornea is thin should you be concerned. My doc dedicates 2 days a week to lasiksurgeries. Choose a doc that does a lot of them.

my husband has surgery like that for cataracts and an astigmatism..... both eyes ( not at the same time) no problems, no pain. You will be able to see better right away and the surgery is very easy on you and the after surgery is just some drops in your eyes... ( may itch just a bit but not bad) so dont be afraid and know that the doctors have done just TONS of these surgerys ( and good luck)

The procedure itself depends on lessening the optical power of the cornea. The upper layer of the cornea is lifted and the tissue underneath it receives the laser treatment( its made thinner), then the upper layer is placed back on the treated area. But did you see your doctor? Do they recommend LASİK for you? Every procedure has a risk but there are happy people all around the world who underwent lasik.Talk to your specialist because there can't be a 20/20 guarantee.(especially for the high astigmatic right eye)

Darling, why you don't look in google about Lasik disasters, there is a lot that any doctor will coment .Why you don think in use contacts? . im using since 20 years without problems,, and with contacts, believe me, it's not the same as glasses, your vision is much better, wider, and clearer. You just have to care them as your optician says.Think it.Good luck!!!

I had lasik surgery in both my eyes three years ago.To this day I have not had any side effects and the surgerywas amazing, fast, no pain and immediate results. My advice is to get rid of your glasses and have the lasikdone, ask your doctor and he will take away your fears, hewill also explain how the surgery is performed better than Iwill. Good luck!
