I am 18 is it ok to consider lasik eye surgery?Bradley i have meopia and i dont like to wera glasses and cant put it contacts can i get eye surgery at this age?
Argentina The US FDA approves laser eye surgery for all patients over the age of 18 in whom there is a stable refractive error.Generally, a person does not grow after the age of 18 (maybe 21 in the case of boys), and so the refractive error remains stable after that. The only problem with getting LASIK done when your refraction has not stabilized is that the myopia may continue to increase, and the acheived correction may then not be stable. Generally, it is easy to enhance a LASIK procedure if this happens. So my suggestion is that you can get LASIK done, provided that you have a history of a stable refractive error (e.g., do the glasses you got made last year give you acceptable vision)
Dinah im pretty sure you have to wait until your early 30's....thats when your vision, as far as being nearsighted, stops changing.i also asked an eye dr about it (im 32) and he said he would never consider getting it done! but thats his opinion...but i agree w/ him.i'll stick to my contacts and eyeglasses.ps my brother had it done when he was 35...he still has to wear glasses, and his vision was not bad to begin with. lasik is not a guarantee that you will never have to wear eyeglasses again, so why bother with it? just sayin'!good luck!
Agnes no i think you must be over twenty. even if you could, it would damage your eyes because lasik stunts growth. i'm 15 and i was wondering the same thing until my optician cleared it up.
