Also if I have medical insurance will it pay for all or any of it? I'm still a teenager and I've worn glasses half of my life.. I absolutely hate them.. I've tried putting contacts in for 3 years and I just CAN'T. Also how much is it or does it depend on how bad your eyes are?

you have to be 18 for any elective surgeryabove that, for lasik surgery you need to have had a stable prescription for a couple of years (i've heard some won't even consider it til you're 21)as it's a technically 'unecessary' procedure (in the same way as body enhancement such as boob jobs) no medical insurance is likely to cover you, i'm afraidcost is generally fairly standard across the board, but for a tailored quote you'd need to go to a few companies and compare costs/sergices

Like most medical procedures, all you need is for the procedure to be legal (which it is), and for you to be "competent" to sign the consent form.Unfortunately, as a minor (assuming you haven't been emancipated), you aren't considered legally competent - but your parents or guardians are.So, if you can persuade them, you're over the first hurdle.However, the second hurdle will perhaps be more daunting - generally the eye surgeon doesn't want to perform the procedure until your eyes stop changing - and since you're still growing, your eye curvature is likely to be still changing. So - even if they did it now, they'd have to do it again in awhile.I don't know if they would consider it "unethical" to do such a procedure now - and there may be other issues such as how bad the hardship of not having the surgery is vs the likelihood of having to do it again. You might be able to persuade some hack to do it for you.But anyone you could persuade to do it ... I wouldn't trust.

I had Lasik eye surgery done after wearing glasses for 16 years. It has been perfect for me. I have had no changes. Of course, as I age, I expect changes. I also co-manage refractive surgery and have seen hundreds of successful patients. It doesn't hurt, generally. There is a bit of pressure, but no real pain if you have LASIK. The PRK version (where no flap is cut) is a little more uncomfortable for the first few days following the procedure. I've seen several people who said they were in some pain, but healed just fine. I used to wear both glasses and contact lenses. I had LASIK done and it's the best decision I've ever made. I can see clearly, no squinting, no driving with glasses anymore. I can read road signs, see the individual leaves in the trees (they're not just a blurry mess anymore). It's also nice to be able to see what time it is when I wake up. The procedure is painless (although a bit uncomfortable) but takes less than 15 minutes. Highly recommended. in the U.S.: 18 years old.no, very few (none? ) insurance plans pay for it. it generally runs about $1500-$2000/eye ($3000-$4000 for both eyes)
