How is lasik eye surgery? i have very sensitive eyes for contact lenses?Abe I afraid of surgeries and my eyes are 1.5 and I use glasses all the time. but I am tired of not having sun glasses or the alergies for contact lenses. What should I do?
Hank Just make sure you see a couple of doctors to make sure you are a good candidate.. not just from the office doing the surgery.I had Lasik done over 5 years ago. My astigmatism came back so they did a "touch-up" only to have the eye get bad again. I declined further work done on my eye wanting to preserve what tissue I had left in them. I have been diagnosed with kertaconus and must wear hard contacts to see 20/20. Not very fun considering how steep my cornea's are (painful). My sister had it done the same time as me and her eyes are perfect. More than likely you should be fine, with the new tools out there they can actually detect foreseeable problems, but it couldn't hurt to get an unbiased opinion.
Jeneva Hi - I just got lasik a month ago and put the full account on my blog - http://peppermint-gum.blogspot.com/Take a look and you can see what it was like...a bit scary but overall a great decision! The only concern for you would probably be that your prescription is very low and your optometrist might not recommend the risk for such a low prescription. But then again, you are the one that chooses! Good luck

Celeste I had lasik around 2000 and it's been great. the only problem is I need reading glasses which lasik does not correct. Or it can if you do only one eye which is too weird for me. Go to the best doctor who does it. Listen to other who have done it and go to their doctors. I've seen people with very bad vision get 20/20 from lasik and are very happy.
Inga Everyone is afraid of surgery, that's only normal. When and if you are determined enough, maybe in your mid twenties, you can look into it as an option.Meanwhile, if you can't wear contacts, your only other choice is to get prescription sunglasses made. They can be done in lots of cool looking frames and can look the same as ordinary sunglasses.
Bev Get a consultation from a 'qualified' doctor.I know 6 to 8 friends who had this surgery, and they say it's the best thing they did for themselves. The most important part is to check out the surgeon and get references and call them...good luck
