How come we have blind people in america when we have laser surgerylasik available?Melony ? I mean I know some people cant afford it but most ppl would just charge it or get a loan or family to help them mean seeing is a big asset to have worth wasting money you dont have. Is there some other reason besides money?
Ellan Lasik eye surgery can't repair everything.Even people who are not blind, if their vision is pretty bad, lasik can't correct it to 20/20.
Adria That surgery does not correct vision for the totally blind and depending on the physiological cause of the vision problem it may not be able to help those who are just legally blind.j
Madison Well, some ppl were born blind. and so then you need an eye donnor. And maybe its not that, but its natural. And maybe some ppl are afraid, some ppl might have all deceased family members. And they are afraid.
Dianna some folks eye problems are far more serious than something lasiks can do for them.
Adan yeah i agree FEAR
Alvina LASIK is a substitute for glasses, not a treatment for blindness.Blindness is not due to needing glasses. It is due to various eye diseases or trauma. Eye disease and trauma are not treatable by LASIK.
Beau people are just plain tight
Clelia You have a camera. Has a lens cap. Won't take pictures. You take the lens cap off. Wow. works.Same camera, took the lens cap off. But there's milk on the lens. Still takes foggy pictures. Clean off the milk. Nice picture! But, no film. No chip. Nice camera, no lens cap, clear lens, nice and clear. But when you take a picture, nothing happens.. no film, no chip.Have a camera that you connect to the TV. Take off the lens cap, clear lens, film or chip works fine, can see the little image on the little screen, but.. not TV picture cuz the wire from the camera, the cable is broken, or missing, or bent, or part of it is rusty. You have the camera working. Nice cable, Picture in the TV, but the memory thing doesn't work at all. So you take a picture, but you can't understand what it is. Could be a horse. Someone tells you, "it's a horse." OK it's a horse. Look away, look back. There's that picture again, but just can't remember what it is. They say again, "It's a horse.", oh yea, a horse.... but after you look away again, you forget again..There are many, lots of reasons why people are blind. Sometimes they just don't learn to see during the time, early in life, that first 6 months or so, and the normal eye is felt to be blind by the brain. These 'lazy eyes' never 'learn' to see well. There's nothing wrong with the eyeball itself, it's just the brain doesn't believe it's image is 'valid'.Sometimes the outer clear part, the cornea gets injured such as a chemical injury. Instead of being clear, it becomes cloudy. These people can get transplants and replace that clear cornea, and they see.Sometimes the lens inside the eye becomes foggy. This is a cataract. These people can get cataract surgery, and afterwards they see. Some people have systemic diseases such as diabetes. If uncontrolled or for some reason they get damage to their retina, the film of the camera, they can bleed into the center of the eye. This vitreous hemorrhage can be removed. Laser can be done to help stop the leaking blood vessels, and they'll see again, or at least better. There are some diseases that damage the optic nerve. These problems are usually permanent. They can't be fixed. No surgery will help. That eye won't ever 'see'.If the nerve becomes damaged over time such as in glaucoma, people can't see well to the sides. This is progressive. Even if they have surgery, sometimes that nerve keeps on getting more and more damaged, and they end up blind. It's sad. It's hard not only for them, but for their friends, family, loved ones. Some people see well, but have a stroke and the association pathways in the brain are lost. They recognize an object if one reminds them of what it is. But if they look away, they forget. It's like knowing stuff almost, but not quite remembering what it is or who it is.So it's not money. It's not technology, it's not lack of surgeons. Sometimes we just can't fix the problems. We do try. We do try.
Dirk Because that surgery isn't for everyone. You have to have a certain problem. I know they can't do anything about stigmatisms in the eyes. I'm sure if they could make you unblind, people would definitely do it.
Janette Blindness has many causes, many of which are not surgically operable. It is often a result of degenerative disease, which has been known to occur after many years of poor nutrition.
