Has anyone had lasik eye surgery and it didnt work?

Son
I've heard of a few that it did not work for, or had to go back and have redone. I don't think I would have it done, but wondered if in older adults say 50ish+ if there are any problems with Lasik.

I don't know of anybody who regrets having had it done, and I checked with my doctor before I had my vision corrected. He said that he has never met anybody who had concerns. There are some precautions after surgery, and they must be followed (such as no eye makeup for a certain number of days, applying eye drops regularly, taking care not to rub the eye, etc.) I'm glad I've had it done and I wish I had investigated sooner.

My husband had lasik at 48 years old - he had terrible vision and grew up with coke bottle glasses. Lasik worked for him only to some degree - he can see far, but has to wear readers nearly all the time. He also had a problem with the eye flap healing. It creased - I don't know if that was because it was cut wrong or if he touched it - but we had to go in daily, then 3 times weekly, then weekly - for almost a year for them to 'iron' the flap. I don't think he would say he wouldn't do it again, but it certainly hasn't been without it's problems for him.

WARNING!!!Something you should research before you go down that road: A man approaching 60 years of age had this done in the last couple of years. Something happened during the surgery and now he can no longer produce tears. He may be an isolated case but his surgery traded one problem for another. Before the surgery he wore some of the heaviest lenses I have ever seen in eyeglasses. Now he must carry a bottle of artificial tears with him constantly. In addition he wears some sort of a goggle apparatus to keep the air from moving around his eyes and drying his artificial tears. After seeing him and discussing his problems I would be very apprehensive about having the procedure done.

I have a good friend that had that surgery for her cataracts, and she only needs a weak lens or contact for one eye now.And before she had coke bottle lenses in her glasses. I had laser surgery to remove the pressure from my eyes forGlaucoma. But it didn't even last a year. I now have just asmuch pressure as I did before the surgery. No one has ananswer either. Now I wonder whether having the surgery forcataracts will also turn out the same way, when it's needed.

Actually, the older the better. My mother is 47 and she just had Lasik and it worked wonderfully. They actually don't recommend it until after the age of 25, because your eyes are still adjusting. So, if you're 50-- your eyes are definitely done adjusting. Go get that Lasik!

Lasik eye surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her dental implants and Lasik surgery in India by a company called Indian Health Guru Consultants. The Price for dental and Lasik surgery is very less in India. She paid 25% of the price she was quoted in America.Indian Health Guru Consultants is very famous in India They arrange Dental surgery, jaw surgery, Lasik eye surgery, Dental Implants etc for foreign patients in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines- about their patient stories. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as dental and eye surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star. http://www.indianhealthguru.comHope this helps.

One of my nieces had the surgery and had fantastic results. One of my brother-in-laws had the surgery and has had horrible results. He has to wear contacts and glasses. He had 2 surgeries to correct the problem. If I was a candidate, I would have it done.

My late husband did have Lasik eye surgery and he rarely had to use his glasses after. It was relatively "easy" according to him and he also said that the "light" was a bit annoying during the procedure, but painless.

My Sister had it done, said it was the best thing she ever did. She was one of the lucky ones. I have a friend that had it done and had nothing but problems, had to go back twice.

Before I retired from my job, a woman had it done and she was miserable for 2 months. That was June 2001 when she did that so I never found out what happened. I'd never do it.

My son had it, at age 24, and my husband last year, aged 67. They both love it - no more glasses, contacts, anything. Both have 20/20 vision now. Great !
