Has anyone had a bad experience after lasik surgery?Kimiko im thinking about getting this surgery how long should i take off from work?
Deja I had LASIK surgery 7 years ago and would do it again in a heartbeat. I was also a certified optician and worked as a LASIK co-coordinator for a prominent ophthalmologist for 10 years. You'll be asked to sign release that lists complications that could happen including blindness. While I've heard stories of it, I never had a patient that experienced it. The stories were, without exception, from patients who went to 'discount' surgeons using second-rate equipment. I highly recommend going to a reputable ophthalmologist. You may pay more, but there are the only eyes you have! Splurge a little on yourself! The most common side effect it dry eyes. I had dry-eye syndrome to begin with that was definitely aggravated by the surgery. If your eyes don't produce enough tears, the healing process is slowed considerably. It lasted about 4 months. For that time, I was constantly using wetting drops. The physical discomfort includes a 'halo' effect around lights, especially when driving at night, and a 'tight' feeling of the eyeball itself. It wasn't painful, just annoying.Like I said, it lasted about 4 months, then it went away and I was left with perfect vision! The worst side effect a patient of mine experienced is called 'epithelial in-growth.' It's very rare - out of the 1000 plus patients we treated, there was only one case. Ask your surgeon about it, but don't let it scare you. It's rare.Good luck to you!By the way, I had the surgery after work on Wednesday, and was back at work on Friday.
Erick My mom got it.I think you only need a week or two off.You aren't allowed to use the computer, drive, or read for several days, and have to wear a goggle thing for a while. But it seems like it's worth it.[edit]And you have to drip some medications into your eyes for a couple weeks as well. The procedure only last 10 mins or so...
