Does the us army do free lasik eye surgeries?

Lynelle
I want to know I have horrible vision and have a stigmatism I believe my left eye is 20/342 and right 20/ 290. A US army recruiter said to me the army will do lasik and another eye surgery free for its soldiers is it true and is there a certain range on how bad the vision is?

Chris
yes, but there are restrictions.. for one if your uncorrected vision is too bad you cannot even get in at all. and two: priority goes to those who hold a MOS that needs 20/20 vision. The waiting list can be VERY long to get it. I am pretty sure your uncorrected vision is too poor to be eligible to even enlist at all.

Lasik is free for military service members. However, you would of had to have exhausted all your other options. Your eyesight needs to be pretty bad, and it has to be job critical. They don't just go shelling out funds for everyone to do lasik just because they don't feel like putting in contacts every morning.

You recruiter is only telling the half true. First you just go to bootcamp first, most likely in your permanent station, since they wanna make you sure u can pass bootcamp before ungle sam spend that money on you. There's a waiting list for Lasik, depend your jobs and eye sight, usually those in combat and deploy soon, has priority.
