Do you have to be a certain age to get lasik?Cherly My daughter is a teenager who wears glasses, she tried Contacts before and they didn't work out that well.
Cherri Tell your daughter just to be patient. She is young, and her day will come!It is WORTH the cost! Losing the glasses was the BEST thing that has happened to me prior to marrying my wife!
Jefferey The limiting factor with laser surgery is how progressive the condition is. The minimum age is usually 18, but if the prescription has to be shown to be stable (in Australia, no more than 0.5, or two steps, change over a year). If your daughter is short-sighted, then the age where stabilization occurs is around 25 (but can be sooner). You just wouldn't want to go through the procedure and find retreatment was necessary a few years later. In the mean time, it may be worth giving contacts another shot. New lenses are constantly being developed so that most people can wear them successfully.
Eugenio I did a lot of research prior to my lasik surgery. All facilities I came across had an minimum age requirement. Most facilities and surgeons I looked into had an 18 year age requirement. A couple even went to 19 and 21. It has to do with your eyes stabilizing."The FDA approved the excimer laser for patients over the age of 18, however it is possible for someone under 18 to have surgery. This would be an off-label use of the medical device and would be legal if a doctor determined Lasik would be appropriate. Pediatric Lasik has been used only in extreme cases where vision is threatened by ambylopia or other serious sight threatening situation because of severe refractive error. Do not expect a doctor to wave this age requirement easily." http://www.usaeyes.org/lasik/faq/lasik-a…
Hans Most of the time you have to be over 18 but in some cases you can get it done when your younger than 18.
Karly at most states ( i mean in the USA) you have to be 18
