Do they put u 2 sleep 4 lasik eye surgery?Layla im 19 and thinkin about havin it done in october. i went to the doc on fri and he said it shuld take 10 mins. what can i do 4 10 mins?
Deonna In the last ophthalmologist office I worked in the laser machine was huge and had a bed the patients laid in. He would give a patient a valium if they were scared and then numb the eye with a drop (no needles and not asleep). They would then hold the eye open with an instrument and start the procedure. It is important for you to keep your eye still and look right where s/he tells you to as the more you move the longer the procedure takes.
Candy they will give you a valium .you won't want to do anything but lay there & chill.
Dona The doctors give you a local anesthesia. Though for the best information of how your doctor will perform the surgery, talk to him.
Jovita I had PRK nearly 2 months ago. I was given a Valium, but my surgeon told me that he couldn't knock me out because I had to do my part for the surgery by being alert to concentrate on a little blinking light to keep my eye still. I was laying on a flat bed and the surgeon held my head during the laser portion after he had done the positioning and explained everything as it was happening. It really only took about 7 minutes for the whole thing. Even my hubby's LASIK took 8 from the time he lay down under the laser until he sat up.My surgeon talked us through the whole thing. I just used that time to relax with the help of the Valium...got a song stuck in my head from earlier in the day, but really, it didn't SEEM like 8-10 minutes at all...not with the countdowns and the explaining of each step....and I was listening to the nurses joke and talk...and the music from the waiting room was also playing.I actually waited in the waiting room a lot longer than it took for my PRK.Please feel free to email me. I watched my husband's surgery (he's now 3 months out) and had it done the following month...and the time passed really fast.
