Can you exercise the day after having lasik?Benedict I have it done tomorrow and want to know how long it takes before I can do all my normal activities again.
Garrett I would recommend you limit your post op excercise for the first 7 days post op. During this time, the corneal flap has not securely bonded to the corneal bed and can be displaced mechanically. Excercising can put you in a position where you may rub or manipulate the eye without thinking about it and could therefore lead to a corneal flap displacement. After 7 days the collagen fibrils of the flap will have bonded well enough to the bed to allow a safe return to all your normal activities. In regard to the comments by zaraleeFIRST -- LASIK does not "burn" tissue. LASIK employs a non thermal excimer laser that works its magic by breaking tissue bonds at the molecular level and basically "vaporizing" the tissue being removed.SECOND -- The flap does not adhere by a scarring process. The flap adheres by the reintegration and bonding of collagen fibrils in the flap to collagen fibrils in the corneal bed.
Christene ok, i know it's a common procedure, but... it involves a LASER burning off a chunk of, and reshaping, your CORNEA. that corneal flap doesn't knit itself back into the cornea, like, won't, ever. scar tissue, growing above and below the cut, is what will hold your cornea together. LET IT GROW!!!
Barrett i would say give it a day. after you have it done you should not do anything that you need your eyes for that much like reading or TV or even going out to eat. it wont take to long and you will be your self. the only thing you need to look out for is if you look at a light and you see it star out . it will look like a lot of lines of light comeing out at you. this means you need to go back and have it done over. also you should not have a charge for this cuz it's the Dr's falt not you .
